Here's what I've been up to

I have been busy, I'll tell you that. People ask me what I've been up to and I say "oh, you know, the usual." Of course, when they try to make plans with me I can't because I'm always doing something. Let me try to remember what's been going on.

Last Tuesday, Eve and I went out to Detroit for the Coalesce show. It was a big deal because Ganon was opening. We skipped out before the legendary band came on, but we still had fun drinking PBRs with everyone I used to know. Seriously, it was a reunion of Mt Pleasant, Manistee, Pentwater folks from 1996. It was cool to see them all, but I don't feel bad about leaving early either. (I had a big day the next day).

I've taken a second job. I'll be working at Ned's for bookrush again. I start tomorrow. It's a very easy job that doesn't involve any strenuous physical activity or thought on my part. I'm planning on putting the extra money towards my purchase of something fun.

Eve and I went to see Rufus Wainwright at the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor on Friday night. That was a ton of fun. I only knew one of his songs before showing up, but I've been a Wainwright family fan for quite awhile (Louden being one of my solid "glad you're working" type guys). He was entertaining, talented, and very accessible. It was a great show with 2 sets and a fantastic encore. Let me try to recreate it for you.
He comes out in a bathrobe and plays a few songs on the piano. Then he sits down on a chair in front of the stage and puts on some diamond earrings and a big sparkling bracelet. He sings a song while the stage hands move his piano offstage and moves farther back to take off his robe revealing a suitjacket dress. He puts on a bowler hat and launches into a Judy Garland rendition of "C'Mon get Happy" with his band dressed in tuxedos and jumping around on stage in a choreographed dance number with him. It was hilarious. They played a few more songs after that and waved good night. We saw just one student who was seated a row in front of us.

Saturday, we went to Dominick's with Eve's brother and his wife. She showed off her new tattoo and we had lots of fun talking about families, school, holidays and music. I went on and on about the reading contest and Kathleen (Eve's sister-in-law) and I had an opportunity to converse in hushed tones about the last Harry Potter book while the Miskas were talking about cameras or something (neither of them had read it yet, so we had to sneak in our vague pros and cons while they were ignoring us or away from the table).

Still haven't heard back about every teaching job I've applied for, which means I haven't exhausted all possibilities for a job this fall. I'm not holding my breath though.

I've got just one more week to read for the contest. After that, I'll only be reading for my own pleasure/enjoyment instead of the chance to prove myself as the fastest reader ever. Eve is disgusted, by the way, that she has to relinquish her stature as a superfast reader in the face of all the Kriegers fighting for supremacy. (I think she's also kind of impressed).

Ok, back to streaming episodes of ALF while working.
