Windows is the Devil. :(
I've been trying to do a backup on my new laptop for days. It keeps 'reminding' me to burn a restore disc. I keep trying. It tells me I need 4 DVDs to do the backup.
First, it takes forever to backup (13 minutes for one disc, then 9 minutes to verify that same disc). Then, without fail (ha, nice choice of words), I always get an error message, telling me that 'Windows is unable to verify the backup' and to please start over. This has happened five times. The first time, it failed on the second disc. Then, it failed on the first one. Then, it failed on the fourth. The last two times, it's failed on the third disc. I've wasted 13 blank DVDs on this shit, and I still don't have a fucking disc image.
So, I went into good ol' regular backup, and gave that a shot. It failed on the second disc, which means I'm out a total 15 DVDs. I tried on an 8GB flash drive, but it won't recognize the drive (no surprise, Windows doesn't seem to recognize fuck all or even work properly). I've used Maxell discs, Verbatim discs, and Memorex discs, so I know it's not the media itself.
This is such utter fucking bullshit.
I also did system updates. It took five hours for a series of four separate updates. My internet connection is nice and fast now, so that's not the issue (I can't even fucking imagine doing it back at the house, where I was getting less than 1 mbps, I would've been committed to some asylum).
I backed up all three of my Macs and downloaded and installed OS X Lion (4GB each) in less than four hours, so this taking five hours for 4 little updates (three of which were under 100MB) on one little laptop is horse shit.
It's also slow as hell doing normal stuff. It takes a minimum of 38 seconds for Firefox to open on the laptop. My teeny little MacBook Air has less RAM, a smaller hard drive, a slightly slower processor, and it opens FF in 8 seconds (and, I have a ton of shit installed on my Air, whereas the laptop is still fairly clean).
So, I just don't get it. Using the damn thing is just making me want to pull my hair out. And, I'd love to have a fucking backup, but that's not happening. Someone suggested I go buy a portable drive and try that, but why waste $50 only to find out that won't work, either?
I hope to hell I don't have to use the damn thing much, or that I can get by on my Mac most of the time. If I have to use this thing on a regular basis, I'm just going to fucking die of sheer frustration (or kill myself out of spite).
