So I got back into Shinjuku Saturday night at 12ish, an promptly went to sleep, only to wake up at 10 to my host brother and 6 of his fiends next door playing video games. grar!
Nagoya was so awesome! I haven't seen my old roommate in ages, and it was really nice to hang out and relax a bit. I got into Nagoya at 6pm on the 8th after spending the day at Himeji castle.
I didn't do much the first day there except watch MTV and talk to her mom. We met up with another friend i hadn't seen in ages for kishimen, a nagoya version of udon thats flatter and wider, and gooood!
The next day Rie had to work all day so i went to Meiji-mura, this open air museum in Inuyama that has 67 buildings recontructedthrere all dating from the Meiji era. It was pretty cool, you could go inside and upstairs of these 100 year old builds, ranging from old schools, to butchers, churches, a kendo dojo, the first Red Cross center. The most memorablewould be the Japanese community center they relocated from Hilo Hawaii. The building served as a meeting place for Japanese immigrants to Hawaii. They have a framed picture of Joseph Heco! He was a famous Japanese castaway fro those of you who have taken Prof. Kohl's Japanese lit class.
There is also the reconstructed entrance and lobby of the Imperial Hotel that was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
On the Saturday that i left ot come back to Tokyo, we went to Nagoya-jo, which isn't all that impressive after just seeing Himeji-jo, but the sakura trees were in bloom! so pretty, and pink! We also tried to buy me a DS Lite, which release two more colors on the 11th, but failed miserable! The store in Kuwana only recieve 15 units! And they were sold out at 12 midnight...who knew ? Nintendo better hurry up and make more units, so i can get Animal Crossing again!
After we had miso katsu(fried porksteak with miso sauce) for lunch, another nagoya specialty.
Traveling around Japan for 2 weeks was fun, but i am so glad to be back in tokyo for a while.
