"Hey ... Shinobu-chin ... ?" Miyagi says, his voice already sounding defeated.
As usual, Shinobu's eyebrows are knitted in anger as he turns around to face the older man. In the back of his head, Miyagi's started to believe that they've gotten irreversibly stuck like that.
"What?" Shinobu snaps.
"Uh ... here."
Miyagi coughs and moves his hand into Shinobu's line of vision. The younger squints his eyes at him before his skeptical eyes follow down Miyagi's arm, to his hand, up the green stem, and land on the bright, pink petals of a flower.
"... are you going to take it?" Miyagi asks after a few seconds of pointless staring.
"D - Don't rush me, old man!" Shinobu snaps again and, oh so delicately, snatches the flower from Miyagi's grip, "I've never gotten flowers before!"
Miyagi cocks an eyebrow, anxiety spilling into his body. Is he really trying to give Shinobu a flower? Really?
"Ah, well, it's really only one, and it's not even that big of a deal - Kamijou's homo boyfriend had a billion delivered to the office and Kamijou forced me to help clean up and, well ... "
"It is a big deal," Shinobu interrupts.
"Really, Shinobu-chin, it's not - "
In a smaller, quieter voice, Shinobu murmurs, " ... it's a big deal because you gave it to me."
And then, like the little terrorist he is, Shinobu smiles. The sudden phenomenon of his smile renders Miyagi frozen. It's always been frowns, scowls, and glares. Even though he's seen it before, Miyagi's never known for something so small to bring such an intense smile to Shinobu's face - or such a powerful, crimson flush to his own face.
Deep in his mind, Miyagi thinks he's fallen into a trap.
