If its bright, shiny, rainbow-colored, wrapped in layers of tulle, probably aluminum foil, bouncy, happy, ridiculous, glitters, shimmies, dances on poles, rollerskates, skateboards or in daisy dukes, sings about pirates, toothbrushes, has a secret identities as superheroes that have their own theme song, I'll probably enjoy it with a stupid grin on my face.

That being said, is it any wonder I'm a JE fan? So, I'm rooting around the internet looking for things like good music/anything that will make me laugh and I realize something.

I've NEVER heard anything by Shounentai (one of the uber-senpais in the world of JE, they pre-date SMAP) so I hauled my butt to youtube and they do NOT disappoint!.I don't even wanna know how many crows they killed just to make these hats. Their costumes are all mirrors, sequins and MC HAMMER PANTS. This performance might cause seizures. And to think that I thought that the boys today had it rough. Granted they still have to wear lots of dumb costumes, but they don't have to multi-task nearly as much as demonstrated by my other 80's JE love Hikaru Genji. You would think that black and white, would result in simple costumes- not in JE In the time it took for an instrumental break, the came back in different outfits and still in their rollerskates. That is talent my friends. And I'm not even gonna front, sometimes I hum these songs to myself.

Now my affinity for music compliations and "Top _______" lists has become a means for me to increase my Japanese vocabulary. Just in my scanning of "Music Station's top 111 summer songs" I've learned the words for:

barefoot
star gazing
swallow tail butterfly
to chop off (the head)
rhinoceros beetle

And in the spirit of summer, and learning and the fact that given the chance I will attack just about anyone with the songs that I happen to love at the moment. Here are some of the songs I'm rather partial to right now, with some lyric translations included when I can find them, cuz the lyrics are sweet. None of the translations are mine- my Japanese is awful- and are the property of the pages that I link.

Lifetime Respect- Miki Douzan Lyrics/Translation
One of the sweetest songs I've heard in a while. And I love how its sung in rather rough Kansai-ben (a different translator said that it sounded like a street gang singing to her) and maybe I'm just weird but I like the direct, no frills of it all. It's nice to chill to.

"Tentai Kansoku/Star Gazing" Lyric Translation
What can I say, I have an affinity for guitars, and there is just something that I just like about the chorus. And it doesn't hurt that the lyrics are rather sweet.

"Breathe"- Roma Tanaka
He's a new J-RnB/Urban artist that hails from San Fransico (so that means fluent English!). I like his voice, and this track has a very dance-y/Justin Timberlake-ish kinda feel to it. I have the sneaking suspicion that Jin's "Ha-ha" was supposed to come out with this sort of slinky vibe, but things were lost in translation and everyone was too busy watching him wiggle around while saying things like "cum in my room" to pay attention to the song.

"Koi no Mega Lover"- MAXIMUM THE HORMONE
If you haven't heard of these guys yet, then I'm sorry. They crack me up and blend super angry guitars, lots of screaming, rapping, crashing drums, with super cute pop vocals on the hook and its infectious. You don't think that it would all make sense together, but it does. At least for me. And the video has a great little dance you can do to the chorus. Random fact their drummer is the little sister of I believe the Bassist and the chick that sings. They also did "Zetsubou Billy" which was the ending theme for Deathnote for those of you into anime.

Wow and actual post! I'm proud of myself!
