Hey friends. I just posted this to a website that shows customer reviews of restaurants. Thought I'd copy and paste it here to show what a crappy time we had last weekend. Everyone from Boise, read this, and then never, ever patronize this shit hole again.
My husband and I went to Pair last weekend with two other couples. Pair is a place we have frequently gone to with friends since they opened. After our latest experience, we will never go back. We went late in the evening on a Saturday night for drinks. A few in our party ordered dessert. When we had finished, the waiter brought one check for all of us. We asked him to split it among the three couples. He said we had to write down on the back of the receipt what each couple had and our credit card numbers, then walked away. We were really confused. He came back, asked how it was going, and we said we really weren't comfortable writing down our credit card numbers, could he just please split the check. He said he'd split it three ways equally, we said, no, some of us had more than others, we'd just really like three separate checks, please. He stormed off without a word and didn't return. After waiting for 10 minutes, we were getting impatient, and decided to take the bill up to the bar and pay so we can leave. We were standing in line at the cash register, and a woman who we assume was the manager comes out and says "You need to move out of my cocktail area" very rudely and starts pushing the six of us across the restaurant. All of this was in the midst of a very crowded restaurant, with loud DJ music playing. We tried to explain, we just want to pay our bill and leave. She says "I know, but we don't split checks, it's our policy for groups of 6 or more." We pointed out that no such policy had every been mentioned when we'd been there before, nor was it mentioned tonight, and we'd been there before with even bigger groups. "Well, it's in the menu," she said. At this point, the waiter came back out and gets into an actually YELLING fight with one of the gentlemen in our group. The waiter had to be restrained by another waiter to keep from swinging a punch. He stormed off again. The manager actually swore("Just shut the f*** up for a minute.") at my husband when he said "Please, we just want to pay and leave." Another waiter came out, because ours has stormed off again, and says "Well, maybe they split checks at CHILI's or places like than, but we don't, and no one around here does." We were so exasperated at these blatant insults that some of us were ready just to leave. If they really didn't want our 88 dollars, we'd just leave. However, they finally split the checks, ran our cards, and let us sign the slips. As we stormed out, all of us feeling completely insensed and insulted, the manager slaps one of the gentlemen in our group on the back and spat "have a nice life." We were completely shocked and upset by this point. We stood there on the sidewalk outside, dazed, completely not comprehending what had just happened or why we had been treated this way. We could not believe how horribly we were treated, just for wanting to split our bill. If that is is their policy, which is a policy I have never heard of from any other restaurant, nor from this same one the numerous other times we've been there, they could have calmly and apologetically relayed this information and suggested alternatives, instead of the crappy, rude, mean service we got instead. We will NEVER go here again, and neither will our friends. We will spend our money elsewhere.
Incidentally, we later found out the restaurant had recently come under new ownership, and this may account for the change in quality of service and "policy."
