If you're my FB friend, you're probably already bored to tears about this.
However, it's Riots Day 4 now. Last night when I got home I thought things felt a bit off. As the night progressed, the news become worse and worse. So much mindless violence I have never seen in my entire life. Work sent us home early today - our landlords were putting the whole building under lockdown at 5pm. On my ride home I was passed by 3 or 4 police cars, sirens blaring. Most shops had closed and locked up by 4pm. Some handymen were hammering plywood boards over shopfronts.
A few people have asked me what the motivation is. Well, a man was shot by the police last Thursday and there were protests. Then mob psychology took over, an opportunity was seen, and thuggish violence ensued. It's not about the death of one man anymore. As you can hear in this video, it's "the government... I don't know... Cameron... or whatever I don't know... it's the rich..." oh yes and it's "showing the police we can do what we want". Rich people = store owners. Hence stores need to be destroyed. Oh but my poor little chavvie dimwits, when you tear down McDonalds and Primark, where will you eat?? What shall you wear?? Oh dear, we've not thought this through have we?
ETA: I got the feeling that the general Islington area was being evacuated. And the way that people are battening down the hatches and deserting certain areas of the city make me think that something big will be going down tonight.
