As he prepares their bed, he realizes that he is humming some tune. He does not seem to know all of the song but what he recalls is somehow very precious.
He knows that there was a time when he was a young child, his mother would come to his bedside and sit near him, stroking his hair as she sang an old lullaby, very softly, almost as if it were a secret that only the two of them shared.
He remembers that as he falls asleep, listening to the pachi-pachi of stones as Shindou plays late into the night.
