I'm leaving town for almost 2 months starting tomorrow evening.  And, um, I began packing this morning.  Frak.  Me.  It's going to be awesome, I know that.  But I'm dragging my feet because while I love traveling, the thought of being gone so long makes me nervous.  I did it last summer in Sweden, but only for a month ( Read more... )

I bought during the same deal last year? And I love it. I also love the iPod and was able to sell the printer to a friend.

I'd do it, if you want a new computer.

Thanks for the advice! I'm a little stressed about the whole thing. I'm waffling big time. Flip-flopping. Vacillating. Indeciding.

I have no idea about that technical stuff, *am a failure*, but wanted to wish you Safe Travels.

Just think. When you get back, you can jump right into S4.

Now, speaking totally selfishly. What about Robin? You gonna leave us hanging for 2 months? And right when we're at... Deeeeeaaaannnn!!!

No! I'm going to finish it before the premiere! I'm going to be Kripked and I'd like it to be AFTER the fact, thank you very much.

Also, I just posted Chapter 4.

I have no idea on the computer stuff. Macs are usually really good, right? But I've heard if they fall apart, they fall apart bad. If you get a new one and it's one of those rare messed up ones, it would be pretty hard to get it replaced, wouldn't it?

I have a Compaq laptop that I need to replace, but mine has XP and I've heard such bad things about Vista that I think I'll just run this one to the ground and hope that Microsoft has come out with a new OS when I need a new one. Or that Apples have become less expensive.

RIGHT, I'LL STOP HIJACKING YOUR POST NOW.

Good luck with the the moving thing--you'll be fine. If I can survive Japan, anyone can survive anything else.

Wow...Japan, huh? I'm impressed. At least I'll be able to speak English to most people in Finland. I'm clinging to that right now.

It sounds like a fantastic trip and even tho' you are nervous now you'll have a great time when you are there. The thing that bugs me about travelling? laundry ::sigh::

Anyway, as to the tech stuff, I use MS everyday and will not touch vista. I have several friends who are MAC devotees and would not consider anything else. One also trains others in using Apple products so can be considered and expert I guess. As much as it pains me to say it the Apple deal sounds good...and as fry said you can sell the extra's to assist funds if you need to. Your only issue may be transfering your data from the old laptop to the new unless you had a good usb portable drive.

Have fun. Travel safe and I hope to hear lots from you while you are away. You have to finish your WIP's and the the Anthology and did I mention how much I loved Sin? Printed it out and took it home to read on the weekend and just ... wow, just...wow!

Oh, Lord, the laundry. The cool thing in Sweden was that it was free! Yay semi-socialism!

I think I may be able to transfer most of the stuff via firewire. I'm making a list of questions to ask the apple store when I call them later. Basically, it all depends on the monthly payment.

Oh, I will finish Casualties. I MUST finish Casualties before it sucks the life and the rest of my plot bunnies out of me. And then, as you mentioned, there's the Anthology. And that pesky summer gen exchange fic. I'm glad that you liked Everybody's Sin!

I just did the same thing. Well not go to Savonlinna, but bought a MAC, got the free printer and ipod. IPOD to the hubs, eldest daughter got the printer and I got the MAC.

Oh my - things are so lovely with a laptop. Me and my mac are inseparable. I almost brought it with me to the movies. (Ok laugh, but it crossed my mind)

I am a PC girl, so I am learning the ropes but it is so, so fine. I used the educational discount too. I work at a university.

I say go for it!

Oh, man. I was talking myself out of it until I read the comments. The nice thing about the mac is that it would be smaller, way more portable, and much more feasible to take to Greenland. Plus, the screen would probably survive the trip.
