today is an incredibly gorgeous day in taipei, and i got to actually take advantage of it since it's monthly exam period (monthly exams are basically like having finals every month, and we take two whole school days to give the kids two whole days of tests).
the esl department had all our proctoring this morning (proctoring is SO boring!). you're supposed to watch the kids to make sure they're not cheating...but that's really hard to do because most of them aren't obvious about it. so i keep an eye on them but i have to find ways to occupy my mind. this exam period i
a)counted the number of students with glasses, with visible watches, wearing coats, and who are lefties, and with pencil boxes on their desks, then did long division to figure out the percentages
b) walked around hunting for anything written in english on the walls in the classrooms, results=valentine's day sentences, old english tests
c) walked slowly around making the students think i was super vigilant about watching them, while counting each step, going as high as i could in both chinese and spanish before getting bored
d) practiced thinking spanish sentences in my head (chinese has become an "insert" key in my mind, wiping out spanish as i get better at chinese)
e) covertly made lists of my goals and desires
then, finally, today it was over at noon. i joined my co-workers for paninis and white wine (they had beer but i like a nice glass of white wine in the summer) on the patio of a pizza restaurant, and we bs-ed the afternoon away.
it was awesome.
yay for spring.
