Happy birthday, Dear Toro!
Here's to you, my beloved Ray! *raises glass*. Heh, heh you've finally caught up with me.
For this day, I thought it appropriate to put up an explanation I wrote about why Ray doesn't seem to garner as much attention as the others, and why he is awesome. I wrote this a year ago.
He's very understated in his awesomeness. Very humble, quiet, nice. He sort of comes in under everyones radar (no pun intended). I might say he doesn't get as much attention because he isn't as eye-catching, but I like the way he looks just fine. Better than fine. And I'll say no more about that because I'll get teenie-ish. I mean, the fro is very eye-catching, but the guy is more than just fantastic hair and thighs. He's also got gorgeous, gorgeous lips . . .
He isn't up to onstage shenanigans like Gerard and Frank. He doesn't inspire the protective instinct like Mikey (who, despite being a supamodel now, still looks like he needs comforting and protection) At least that's what I think, all thoughts of "evil Mikey" aside. Bob attracts attention because there's something mysterious about Bob. Bob seems to hide a lot of things, while at the same time being totally dependable. The guy you can always count on, that's Bob.
Toro's totally dependable, too, but I think people tend to over look that in light of some of the other personalities. Bob has an intensity that draws people in. He's brilliant, but so is Gerard and Gerard's just more visible. Ray's funny, but so is Frank, and Frank's a little louder about it. Ray's kind, but people take that as a given. Mikey's also sweet, but (dare I say it,) more conventionally pretty, and Gerard's brother, so he gets more notice.
I think noticing Ray is kind of like noticing the beauty in his looks. You have to give him a second or third glance, and most people just don't go that far. Despite the flamboyant crazy hair . . . Ray is subtle. That's it.
I mean, when I first looked at him, my first thought was "who's the freak with the crazy hair"? Then, over time, I really started to see where his personality (I hate to fight, I was always an obedient kid where my parents were concerned, I'd rather make peace with people if I can, I try to be polite, nice, tactful,) and music preferences (classic rock FTW) jived with mine. He's so peaceful, at least he seems so, and so stable. Personally, I'd love to shed some of my anxieties and be that easygoing. He's also got a strength I don't think I'll ever posess.
Ray rarely does anything crazy, so you have to appreciate the subtlety.
A year later, I can still say the same, but add to it the fact that he radiates genuine warmth and tolerance, I mean, it was so hard for me not to fall "In Love", if you can indeed love someone you've never met.
Anyway, querido, I hope the road takes you wherever you want to go. I hope you have many more happy birthdays, and don't just pass them as the passing of another year. I hope you are always surrounded by people who appreciate you for everything you are and do.
