We have a new shift manager at work. To put it simply, she and I don't get along. At one point last night I was really expecting her to go off on me and demand to know what my problem was. I'm kind of sad she didn't, because I came up with a pretty good spontaneous rant in response.
"My problem is you. You look down on everyone else here, and your sense of entitlement is astounding. Worse because you don't know every aspect of your job yet and while I don't hold that against you, I do resent you not listening when we try to help you.
You're supposed to be our boss, but you dress in a terribly unprofessional manner. We work in a very rich area and you look like a homeless woman. You don't wear a hat or a hairnet which is a food safety violation and could get us fined, as is your incessant gum chewing. Don't ever do that while cutting pizzas again.
Furthermore, you just plain suck at your job. Don't dispatch us before the order is ready, don't give us doubles that don't go together, quit acting like cashing us in is such a burden because you have to put down your phone down. Facebook is not as important as your job, so please learn how to live without for a little while. Also, if I ever see dispatch me or anyone else on an uncomfirmed customer again, I will have you fired.
But lastly, and worst of all, you're just so incredibly damn short! It hurts my neck to look down that far."
I would have loved to have gotten the chance to say that, but I'll settle for what I would up getting to say. After she gave me another crap double, I went and fixed what I and the other two drivers were on so it made sense, while remarking loudly that people who don't know how to dispatch should just stay away from the computer. My RGM (the shift manager's boss) was close by and asked what was wrong. I summed it up as
"She doesn't know how to dispatch, she doesn't know what goes with what, AND she doesn't care about driver safety."
A bit later, I pulled my RGM aside and said
"I apologize for the manner in which I said that, but I stand by what I said. She doesn't listen when we try to tell her what good dispatching is. I've explained how the new customer callback policy works, but she doesn't listen. I'm letting you know now that if she tries to send out another uncomfirmed customer, I will be calling Alex and making it my personal goal to get her fired. I thought you should know."
She agreed with me that driver safety was very important, and she would talk to her about it.
In other words, I got to rant and yell about how my boss is incompetent, and I didn't get fired or even sent home! Go me!
In completely unrelated but even more awesome news,
downloadable08 is coming to visit me! In two weeks, she's gonna fly down and stay for four days.
That's gonna be fun!
