My digital projector - a Sharp PG-F212X - and 86" matte white screen arrived today. All told, after exchange rates and GST, the cost was roughly a thousand dollars. I'd been saving this money since China for the explicit purpose of buying a projector and it's with a profound sense of having achieved a long-striven-for goal that I received the two large packages and hauled them upstairs.

I haven't unpacked them yet - haven't even opened the boxes. Today is my day for catching up on school, doing laundry, cleaning for an apartment inspection tomorrow... I'm about a quarter of the way through Silence of the Lambs and I'm determined to finish it before I look at my projector. Their arrival also initiates the second phase of the home theatre project. Part One was getting the MythTV box set up, cabling everything appropriately, running sound through the amp, &c. Part Two, however, requires that I move the existing television into Tim & Nat's room, shift everything but the speakers to an area beside the couch, find something to put the projector on so that it's far enough and high enough from the screen that I can get a sharp image, put up the screen, run out and buy some DVI-D cables and speaker wire for extensions, and move all the connections from the TV to the projector. I think we'll also have to invest in or make some black-out blinds as there's a lot of light in the living room. It's going to be at least a two-day process and to tell you the truth, I don't really have two days to invest in it right at the moment. This is my week of getting caught up for school.

Pictures to follow once I get everything in its right place.
