Ly and I talked about the weirdest crap, guys (Too Long For Twitter)
LIKE UNDEAD ROBOTS.
I wandered from Kory Bing's Twitter (the artist of Skin Deep, read that comic guys, it's hella awesome) to someone who claimed to be a "humour scientist" with one tweet that said "this halloween, Johnny Five is UNDEAD."
WHAT. YOU STOLE THIS FROM MY CONVERSATION ABOUT THE DEFINITION OF A LIVING BEING LY AND I HAD DURING OUR "LEGACY" BRAINSTORMS IN 2004 EVEN THOUGH IT WAS A PRIVATE AIM CONVERSATION SIX YEARS AGO. >8| (Six years ago? My gosh, where did the time go?)
I dunno it was kind of hard to explain in a lot of the early "Legacy" brainstorm sessions I was playing devil's advocate and just trying to prove Lillian wasn't alive. (This was before the whole "bit of Dakota's soul" idea came 'round, so it was easier to argue this.) Somehow I got onto my joke about the fact that people say that viruses aren't alive OR dead*, so I concluded that viruses are ZOMBIES, and I forgot how but I applied it to Lillian. I guess because we couldn't really apply the word "inanimate" to her because well, she is magically animated? (But then there's the varied definitions of the word "animated" and my head is beginning to hurt.) I think at the time I was for some reason SO WRAPPED UP in the biological definition of life which...isn't really good when you're talking about magically animated robots.
GUYS I DON'T KNOW WHY I DID THIS OTHER THAN TO PLAY DEVIL'S ADVOCATE ABOUT MY OWN STORY AND THEN, MY OWN FREAKING ONLINE AVATAR. That and this was when I was in high school and I was still pretending that I may have a future as a biologist/ecologist. (Hahahah yeah right.) SO YEAH FOR SOME REASON I WAS TRYING TO APPLY SCIENCE TO A STORY WITH MAGIC AND SEVEN FOOT TALL FLYING BIRD/CAT MONSTERS AND STUFF. YEAH, THAT IS SOOOOO SMART OF ME GUYS. SOOOO SMART.
I really need to find this conversation in my Trillian logs again. I think we got into discussion into other types of half-alive or magically animated monsters and I kept on trying to apply the defintions of them to Lillian. (Before in the VERY beginning there were some offhand references to "golems," but LAWD KNOWS that is totally NOT the term I was looking for) We ended up chasing the subject around the landscape until Ly finally got me to stop the stupid hard science talk since this is, Y'KNOW, A FANTASY STORY and that another definition of life should be used because Lillian is something so different.. (I think he said "else" which while being grammatically weird is actually a pretty good word for it.)
