GEHHHHHH

This scarf is taking absolutely forever, and I think I finally realized the problem tonight.

It's not that I had too many other things to work on, it's not that I'm lazy. It's that I don't have a goal length in inches for it. We don't even know how tall Gru is, so there's no good way of even guessing an approximate length, just that it's longer than a standard scarf.
So right now I'm just crocheting under the "make it until it's long enough" rule, which is really bad for keeping me motivated. And I'll tell you why!

Imagine someone tells you to count to 100. It starts to get boring around 60, but you know you're already over halfway there, so you keep plugging away.
Now imagine they told you to just count, keep counting as long as you can. You'll get to 60 as in the first example, but you have no way of knowing how far along you are (indeed, you probably will realize you haven't gotten very far at all) and you'll give up because, well, it's boring.

When the end is undefined, there is no goal to shoot for.

This scarf is made of an alternating pattern of 6 rows light gray, 3 rows dark gray. So, each pair of stripes is 9 rows, which also happens to come to exactly two inches of length. I have completed 28 pairs since starting it in July, for a total of 252 rows or 56 inches.

Am I even halfway? I don't know.

All I know is, I want to work on something else. I'd like to get started on that round ripple blanket, but I'll feel guilty having two personal projects started when I haven't even gotten yarn for Steve's Bachuru yet. Sigh.
