I learned a cool thing from a book: Hanlon's razor: "don't casually attribute to malice what could be the result of cluelessness or sheer stupidity". That's my paraphrase, I'm pretty sure the original was put better. But I like it. It doesn't make the world any less scary, but it does make me a little less cranky.

I'm a friend of circe_magnifica, and I just happened upon this entry. You can't imagine how much I appreciate hearing that 'quote'... It doesn't make the world any less scary, but I agree, it makes me less cranky also. Thanks!

Reading this, it occurs to me that I often attribute behaviors to stupidity, but I end up getting cranky and angry because people are acting stupidly (this mostly applies to driving, actually). I guess I have to stop being upset by stupidity, huh? *G*

hee hee! Yeah, it's not that stupidity doesn't upset me. And it scares me at least as much as maliciousness does. And don't even get me started on the things people do driving. But it helps keep my paranoia level down, and on the whole I think that's a good thing. I'm bitchy enough without feeeling intentionally conspired against too. ;)
