Problem Solved

I think Dan and I came up with a solution for Universal Healthcare.

First, you must understand that hospitals and doctors are plagued with malpractice suits, not all of them necessary. No one knows how to seperate the necessary from the unnecessary, however, so even the best of doctors are liable to pay out handsome fees to undeserving plaintiffs in malpractice suits.

While we don't want to strip the patients of their right to sue negligant and crappy doctors, we would like to discourage wild claims that damage the medical society's ability to do a good job at an affordable price.

Without false or unfounded claims against doctors, the price of health care would go way down, and the government would be able to shoulder more of the burden of universal healthcare without increasing taxes by an exhorbitant amount.

So here lies the genius of my plan with Dan (I'm a poet and I don't know it):

Plaintiffs who lose their case must donate a body part to medicine.

This would be economically fair. Rich and poor alike would be at the same loss without a body part.

Secondly, this would help organ donation programs to supply organs to those in need, perhaps reducing some costs along the way.

Thirdly, this might encourage people to research their case a little more before hand, saving everybody some time when they realize that the doctor was just doing what he was supposed to be doing. If there is a legitimate claim, then they can go through with it, no problem.

Hmm, and lawyers should have to pay the legal fees for the defendant in such cases if their side loses. Then maybe there would be less lawyers pushing for malpractice suits when they really aren't necessary. Again, if there is a legitimate claim, the lawyer should have no qualms against taking on such a case.

I just realized in writing this post that lawyers are bastards. I should have one in the family pretty soon, so I have all the necessary justifications gripe about lawyer-bastard syndrome.

P.S. My suggestion for how body parts should be donated after losing a malpractice suit: Draw pictures of body parts on a deck of cards, shuffle, then draw the card. That way you won't get a bunch of donors giving the same damn body part, like blood or hair or a kidney. You'll get some parts you actually need, like bone marrow, some limbs maybe, or a heart.
