Wow - I am affraid of my boss. He is so touchy about certain stuff. I am covering another property (I work for RW Selby & Co., Inc.) while the managers are all supposed to be in a meeting at the Heights out by LAX. I was chosen to give a prospective buyers tour today at Beverly Plaza and I was all prepared this morning... my notes on the location and building memorized by 10am and the route mapped out for the best views of the property and types of apt. styles. Right as I am coming back from lunch in my comfy shoes (since I was walking several blocks to the 3rd street shops at The Grove and didn't feel like wearing my heals), I hear a pounding on the front door glass. I look up and see Chris - our regional manager and my top boss above the individual property managers. I jump up (not expecting him to be here since he is supposed to be running the meeting off-site), open the door, and he glowers at my shoes. I quickly explain that I litterally just got back from lunch and throw my heals back on in a fluster. He proceeds to tell me that he is here to take over my buyers tour. I hap-hazarly try to explain in 5 seconds everything I had prepared this morning and he shrugs it off... saying he'll just wing it bc it is going to be "cake" for him with all of his expereince. When the buyers arrived with the other director and CEO, they asked a question he didn't know the answer to and I politely answer their query, as per my instructions from Racquel, the property manager of this location (who - of course - is not here, but at the managers meeting off-site). They proceed to ask my name and position and how long I have been with the company and after I explain, Chris jumps in with a hasty "she's just covering today" - as if I am a totally ignorant and insignificant entity at this momnet. After this they take off for the tour. Once all is said and done and we wave them out, Chris tells me to throw away my shoes that aren't heals. We begin to joke about it and talk about the filing, etc. Within a matter of min. he becomes this totally different person. He jokes with me about the weekend and explains my holiday pay for monday as twice my normal rate ($30 and hr. - not bad!), then thanks me for helping organize this office for Racquel and wishes me well, noting that he feels bad that he couldn't give me Sun. off for Christie's grad. (which he could have, since he plans to be "drunk all day" Monday and then recovering). As he leaves, everything feels fine - I'm not in trouble or anything here (I mean, I'm one of his top leasing consultants and I have been with the company for a month), but I still feel shaken when I have had any kind of solid interaction with him. He keeps me rigid on my toes. I feel like I am always asking questions, permission, or back-tracking to explain something to him. YIKES. Anyway, at least I know that I am not in danger of losing my job. I just wish that all of my hard work would earn me a bit more comfort. I guess I just have to get used to him as a personality type.
Jeremy left for a meet today. Hopefully, he will qualify for Nationals! I know that he has it in him to break out and really throw far. It is just a matter of him really catching a great throw. :-) Since he is out of town, I am going to try and see X-3 with the girls tonight at midnight (if we can get tickets). Then tomorrow, it is all about errands and OC for Christie's graduation from Cal-State Fullerton!!!! At least I will get to see one of her ceremonies and go to DL with her on Sat. The family party will be a blast, but, as I mentioned above, I'll be at work. I can't complain though bc this job is SO MUCH BETTER than my last two. The hours are more reasonable (all things considered) and the salary/coms. are great. I am excited to see everyone this weekend and to recover a bit from my cold. I look forward to Jeremy's safe return from Utah (a.k.a. Mormon country ;.) and to good news of his success. Other than that, I guess I should get back to filing now for Racquel... since it seems to be the only thing I can do here today to actually earn my salary. lolol
Ciao all
