The new semester begins on Tuesday. I'm very, very excited. Yes, that's two verys.

I thought the time between Natalie leaving and the semester starting would be filled with long, lonely, boring days, but actually it passed quite quickly. I've been busy every day. However, I consider watching TV and reading a book all day as criteria for being busy, as well as going out and doing crazy things (like ice-skating). The point is that I've been spending most of my time alone, but I've not once felt lonely.

And now, finally, the new semester is going to begin! I'm eager for many reasons. First, I love sitting in a classroom. I love being in a learning environment all the time, surrounded by others who are there to learn. High school wasn't the same because students were there because they had to be. But university is different. For the most part, everyone there wants to be there. I don't know what I'll do after I graduate. I don't think I can stand being out of school for the rest of my life. In an attempt to soften the blow, I'm even on the track to becoming a teacher. Until then, I still get to enjoy this semester as well as at least three more.

Second, I can't wait to start signing again. I've missed Sign Language so much. I've hardly used it for a whole month because no one around me knows it and there's only so much I can converse with myself. The signs that I know, I use, but meanwhile my lexicon has not been expanding at all. So I'm excited to start Sign Language III and also to meet my new professor. I hope she's helpful!

Third, one of my closest friends, Christina, is starting at CSUN this semester and we have a class and a break together. I'm glad I'll be able to spend more time with her, but I don't think many of my other friends share the same break. Last semester, about seven or eight of us coincidentally had the same break, so we often got to spend some time together. I hope that I'll still be able to stay close to those friends who don't share the same break with me this time around, because it seems most of our communication occurred during our time on campus.

Which brings me to the last and most important reason I'm excited for the new semester. I can't wait to meet new people. I still love everyone I know, but I just want to get out there and make new friends. Go to new places. See new things. I want change.

On the other hand, I kind of like being a loner. Of course I won't like it forever, but for the time being it's nice.

The time-being meaning the time between now and Tuesday.
