Things that make you go WHAT THE FUCK

So I am reading this book that Warren gave me for my birthday (for those who don't already know, I found myself in one of those crazy crazy things called a relationship).
It is called 'Endgame: Volume II Resistance' by Derrick Jensen.

This booked is a compilation of twenty premises.

Premise one: Civilization is not sustainable and can never be ( Read more... )

WE aren't doing anything about it because people can't be bothered OR they're lazy OR they're ignorant of what's happening OR they don't want to.

North America is the leader, the consumer, the society that sets the tone... and we're a society of victims, of entitled whiners who deserve EVERYTHING in a frickin' basket. We worry about being politically correct, about making it all balance and be equal by taking away things, about stupid little shit. We've never left the 'me' generation, it's just become hidden under layers of crap.

We don't think of next week. We LIKE to think that we consider tomorrow but we don't really. We think about the now... or fifteen seconds from now.

We focus on that piece of cake, that new tv, that orgasm... and we're good there. It's immediate gratification, it's consumerism and materialism, it's RIGHTS and NEEDS and other such bullshit.

Oh, there are some who realize what's going on, folk who don't play society's game, who are mature and awake... but their voice is kinda small and quiet and drowned out by the drama queens with their PC cards *sigh*

Yeah, cynical... but that's me *shrug*

I never imagined I would grow up and live an Orwellian dream being induced by LSD administered by Aldus Huxley.

But I digress,

I guess what I was trying to get at, was what are you the people that I know trying to do to limit the amount of bullying that we are receiving from our so called government?

What are you doing to lesson the power of the economy?

Ah, what are we each doing, individually?

Me, I ignore the government where I can, sidestep it where I may and ensure that I am focused on what is needed, necessary, required... NOT what the 'powers that be' communicate. But I've always been that way no matter the group, really.

I don't buy into 'normal' and 'regular' and all those other social constructs. But in doing so I try to create a positive impact world around me.

Economy... harder, as money is necessary to live... but I also work in barter, I try to work the economy and government to feedback into each the other, and I'm not materialistic. Nor do I buy into trends.

I'd like to think that what I do has an effect. But I also realize it would take millions doing such before that effect was noted, felt, seen. But in communicating it... perhaps others do learn and carry forward...
