Meme pulled from MySpace, that touches a nerve. It's actually been studied, minorities (as much as any generalization is true) are more racist against each other than "white" people are against any of them.
You call me "Cracker", "Honkey", "Whitey" and you think it's OK.
But when I call you Kike, Towelhead, WOP, Spear chucker, Sand-nigger, Camel Jockey, Gook, Nigger or Chink you call me a racist.
You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you, so why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live?
You have the United Negro College Fund.
You have Martin Luther King Day.
You have Black History Month.
You have Cesar Chavez Day.
You have Yom Hashoah
You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi
You have the NAACP.
You have BET.
If we had WET(white entertainment television) ...we'd be racist.
If we had a White Pride Day... you would call us racist.
If we had white history month... we'd be racist.
If we had an organization for only whites to "advance" our lives... we'd be racist.
If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships...you know we'd be racist.
In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights. If we marched for our race and rights...you would call us racist.
Did you know that some high school students decided to make a club for only the white students because the other ethnicities had them... they all got sent to court for being racist but the african-american, latino, and asia clubs were not even questioned.
You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you're not afraid to announce it. But when we announce our white pride, you call us racists.
I am white.
I am proud.
But, you call me a racist.
Why is it that only whites can be racists?
Repost if you agree.
Now watch, I'll be a racist for posting this
so watch no one will repost this for fear of being called racist?
Well I will keep posting it because I am white and I am proud.
Except that I'm not proud to be white. I have no loyalty to any group I belong to out of anything other than pure intention. I'm not proud to be intelligent, though I'm definitely glad of it. I'm not proud to be straight. (No, I don't believe that sexual orientation is something one has a choice in.) I've never had any school spirit, because I'm there to learn (or just because I have to be), not because I have any particular attachment to the school, or because I actually think it's good.
On the other hand, I'm proud to be a juggler. I'm proud to be a geek. I'm proud to be an atheist. These are all conscious decisions I've made. For each of them, it would be easier (though less interesting) to go along with everyone else rather than take that route, but I've chosen my path and I'm proud of it.
There's no reason to be proud of something you had no choice in. Are people proud of being tall? Of having brown eyes? It's silly to be proud of these things. Just as silly as it is to be proud of skin color. It's irrelevant. The problem is human nature, there's always got to be a "them" for "us" to feel superior to. And it's easiest to pick some difference that's readily apparent to the eye. The only way humanity will ever be united is if there's some non-human to be united against. And even so, it'll only last as long as there is that outside enemy. As soon as the other "them" is gone, humans will return to their natural and historical internecine feuding.
Having said that, I do agree with just about everything else contained in the body of that meme.
