Blame It on the Beta

Reasons why the writer's latest chapter is not yet posted.
Just for fun. No insult intended to beta-readers. I r 1.

Reason #1
My beta is Amish. She can't pick up her e-mail because she doesn't have a phone.

Reason #2
My beta lives on the island of Ni'ihau in Hawai'i. The only communication is by ferryboat. The boat goes to Ni'ihau once a week, so I have to wait a week for the chapter to come back. And if I don't have the chapter ready in time, I have to wait another week for the next boat.

Reason #3
My beta lives in the town of Brigadoon. I have to wait for the hundred-year cycle to come around. Then she'll awaken and spend her day working on the chapter. Of course, I'll have to explain the whole concept of movies to her, and then she'll have to watch "Brokeback Mountain" before she can understand what the chapter is about. Maybe it'll take another hundred years before she finishes it.

Reason #4
I've just started working with a new beta: jerri_f@thomasroadbaptistchurch.com. Has anybody tried her? She promised quick turn-around, but it's been weeks. I'd file a truth-in-advertising complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, but I don't think they investigate non-commercial violations.

Reason #5
I need to do a massive rewrite. My beta just returned from a retreat about "Our Church's Position on Homosexuality". I'm afraid the entire story will have to go in a new direction. Jack and Ennis will be undergoing three weeks of Christian counseling at a treatment center in Arizona. I had kind of been counting on following them through coming to terms with being gay, but obviously that will all have to change now. So there will be a delay while I retool.
