So after a slow week, today was a busy one. After some early bike fixing time (completely futile) in which many fuses were blown and wiring diagrams were thrown across the garage in fits of anger (not only mine), We decided to cool off and assist with the gardening. Much safer, and generally less thinking involved.
It had been determined that the Kiwi Bush was to go. This bush/tree, several decades old, and with some significant development, had other ideas. After an age of chopping back branches, untangling vines, and accidentally cutting through irrigation systems (fortunately no longer needed), we finally got back to the tree.
It was clear that a penknife saw would not really cut it... so using said pen knife, a piece of the cut away tree, and (most importantly)a rather handy hatchet head (special camping tool that can be used as an axe, hammer, knife and skinning tool) which was given to me, well nominally sold for the sake of good luck, so that I could go camping suitably equipped for emergencies and enjoy it all the more) from really good but rather cantancarous friend (who is grumpy in the morning and demends blog rewrites if he hasnt had his coffee), an axe was made, and in time, the tree (both trunks) was removed.
This rather short description of the last chapter in this valiant tree's life, somewhat belittles the courageous defiance with which it resisted. I am now typing with numerous open blisters on my hands from the cutting, 2 hatchet handles later, and with a much bluntened axe head. But still. The axe will be resharpened, the blisters will hopefully heal, and this way, there is now light in the garden.
Just as an aside, if anyone would like some kiwi firewood, and would like to pop round and pick it up...
After digging up the roots, Dave decided that it would be a great idea (given the sunshine) to go climb a hill, and look at South Island for a bit. With nothing better to do,. and fresh batteries in the camera, this was too good to miss. Very glad I went... We are planning to start running this hill next weekend - its going to hurt!]
They say that one in the hand is worth two in the bush?
A veiw back from where we had come

Just to prove I didnt just send Dave with my camera... (which I may or may not have been tempted to do...)
This would make a fantastic bookmark?
This I just love for the contrast of the green and blue... and the quantity of both...
My favourite of the afternoon, and one Rosie is thinking of getting put on the wall as a canvas....
Remind anyone of a sort of hobbit film'y thing?
Sorry - way too many photos in there I know - but it is so difficult to choose between them.
Anyway... Really hoping we run that next weekend without it killing us both! And hope these blisters are dried up by tomorrow! We have carpets to lift!
