So much to catch up on...
Christmas Eve I went to my brother's house. Folks were quite late arriving but the festivites got underway after a turkey dinner. I received a lovely embroidered white scarf, perfume, a watch and Burbery purse. I was a little subdued but Lance socialized, socialized, socialized. Then we went home where Lance passed out and I thought about packing.
Christmas day was very low key. My brother, SiL and I were supposed to go see Dreamgirls but they never could get it together. Finally at 6:00PM I opted to stay home. Unfortunately I had no food in the house so I rushed to the gas station's 24-hour shop and managed to get a salad that was still edible, a bag of chips, juice, and ice cream. I didn't mind, really. I chilled, listened to Christmas music, and geeked on the computer. Oh yeah, and packed.
Boxing day, I woke early (so there!
trinalin, was picked by Airport Express and headed to O'Hare for the flight to see
elsaf in Detroit. The flight was delayed because a flight attendant didn't show! This was a first for me. They got a happy sub hepped up on caffeine, who amused the passengers so much, she was applauded. Trina picked me up. Shockingly to everybody's amazement I wanted to go to Best Buy pronto to get more prezzies (on the day after Christmas, of all days). Now, I had proudly done ALL my shopping on Amazon.com without ever once setting foot in a mortor store. But I had this brilliant idea to get a car transponder for Trina's iPod. I forbade Trina to come anywhere near be (indeed, to flee the vicinity if she saw me approaching). Meanwhile Elsa and I found one. We headed to the checkout line that ended at the back of the store. A sign promised only 1 0 minute wait. Most in the line was timing it too. Then I realized Elsa was still due her birthday present. So I snatched up another transponder for her iPod, and threw her out of line. Lo, and behold, I did get to the checkout in 10 minutes. Amazing. We headed to Sy Thai for a lovely dinner. Then we headed to the Fischer Theater to see Spamalot which was hilarious. I hightly recommend seeing it. Elsa took us on a lovely tour of a tony area of lake shore with mansions festooned beautiful Christmas light displays. None of us had a camera, so we planned to return again to take pictures. Then we returned home where Trina made some large amaretto sours and we all passed out.
Yesterday, Elsa began the day by preparing pancakes and sausage. Then she made me do the g-word!! However, it was much more entertaining going up an down grocery aisles with them. I survived the ordeal , only to have Elsa take me to a real butcher shop. I assumed they were extinct becasue there are none near me. The butcher was entertaining and I snapped a pic of her which I post later. Back at Elsa's, we assisted her in making steak and ale pie, wassail and trifle. Her brother and SiL arrived with shepherd's pie and stuffed stockings. This very English evening was capped off by watching the Doctor Who Christmas special, The Runaway Bride. (New DT!! SQUEEEEEE!). After company left, the gals just couldn't hang, so we all headed to bed ad midnight. Pish.
Today, we are relaxing and geeking. Elsa made a lovely breakfast of french toast and sausage. We plan to see either Casino Royale or Happy Feet and then dine at La Shish, a persian restaurant.
