This post is about four albums. Adema's Insomniac's Dream EP, Pendulum's Hold Your Colour, Valient Thorr's Immortalizer, and Virgil Donati's Just Add Water.
I'm not sure what to make of this. On the opening track, Immortal, their bassist is playing pretty fast. Listening to it makes my wrist hurt, though he's probably using a pick. The vocalist sounds fairly generic - I swear I know at least two other bands that sound like this guy. It all sounds like I've heard it before, and I'm not sure if I'd want to hear it again.
Drum and bass all sounds the same to me. I'll listen to another album at the end of this experiment to see if it's any different.
The instrumental parts are good. They're not incredible, but they're interesting enough to hold my flea-length attention span.
Tomorrow Police is a pretty cool song. I'll be listening to more of this.
Virgil Donati's Just Add Water is an unrehearsed jam session that was recorded entirely in one take. I'm not gonna try to say he's not a good drummer (jesus fucking christ,
he is), but I can't say I'm too much of a fan. Maybe I just need to listen to it again. I couldn't find a higher resolution version of the cover art, but it's... absurd.
I have more catching up to do. I'll be writing about Radiohead next.
