Bits and drops

Brain catharsis, dump crap out of head, go -

I find it funny that PvP in WoW always frustrated me, but when I do it on my Hunter it doesn't feel like... I dunno. Like it "matters". Not that it was some earth shaking issue beforehand, but shooting people in the face and running around I guess just puts me back in TeamFortress mind-mode, so I tend to filter out the /spit spamming of Xstabxor while his four leet friends blow all their cooldowns to outskill me in a 5v1 pummeling.

Something I pasted to the Neg forums earlier this week but figured might be interesting to a broader audience - If you have not yet been creeped out (not disgusted, I mean creeped the fuck out) by the sort of initiatives and directives that have been handed down by the White House for the past eight years, let me help you with that.

The Quiet Revolution: The President's Faith-Based and Community Initiative: A Seven-Year Progress Report

We stumbled upon this at the office here since we do alot of work with the Catholic Church and were looking for some possible government grants in the area of faith-based or community-investment-based charitable organizations. It's 122 pages long and I got to about page 30 before I had to put my burrito down and stare at trees for ten minutes to regain my sanity. It's an amazing example of how politicians can take a very fundamentally true and overlooked fact - unfufilled basic needs cause a great deal of the world's social ills - and exploit the unholy shit right out of it. With such wonderful phrases as "A Determined Attack on Need", "Soldiers of Compassion", and "Monopoly on Hope", you'll laugh, you'll cry, you may even just drink some Dran-O when faced with the pure horror of it all. It's amazing to see how Bush's single mindset prevails in every aspect of his governing - turn something into a "war" where we have bad guys and good guys and the bad guys lose to the good guys toting guns. With freedom bullets, I guess.

Next, we have Sarah Palin, and more recently, the RNC. Watching the Republican party somehow try to push the idea that they haven't been setting the tone of national politics for at least the past eight years is just breathtaking. If you can find it on youtube or any news websites, marvel as Republican speakers, one after another, straight-facedly blame "those guys in government" and "the politicians"... seriously. These blame targets are used by ... you know. Those guys in government.

I want to vomit lasers.

Sarah Palin, by herself, is something of a dissapointment (to say it lightly). It was originally pretty heartening to see a somewhat vanilla Conservative put on the ticket since it gave me some hope that it was McCain's way of saying "look, Bushies, I'm taking your fucking money, but I'm not going to play ball with your federal government expanding, money wasting, global policing bullshit ways". Unfortunately, it seems that Palin is about two dimensional and vapid as the unceasing comment made about how much of a MILF people might think she is. On top of that, the obvious (oh why didn't we see this coming) plan is unveiled this past week - she's a fake scandal generator. With a woman on the ticket now, the Republican party can wring their hands about OH GOD ALL OF THE SEXISM and use the Bush tactic of "why do you hate America" and replace it with "why are you so sexist" instead of actually responding to any criticism. Seeing all these talking heads go on and on about how unfair everyone is to Sarah Palin because of "the woman thing" is pretty interesting since about 4 months ago it was "Hey Hillary, quit whining about people pointing out you're a woman. Jesus, grow up."

On that note, a link to an article stolen from espvivisection since it also tends to sum up my bitter, bitter dissapointment with Palin and the Republicans in general at this point - http://www.salon.com/mwt/feature/2008/09/11/zombie_feminism/index.html Several friends of mine - credit where it's due: Mostly Cassie - have been pretty good about articulating this to me but this seems like a good sum up for those of you who don't get to witness our little exchanges of rage.

Also, Hurriance Ike will be here tonight to lay waste to all that God and man has wrought in the city of Austin. Or it will be a light breeze by the time it gets here. You know, depending on what channel you watch.

rant, politics, wow
