New River Gorge

Real quick update since I don't feel like typing lol.

Ryan came down this weekend to look at some puppies, so he stopped by and we did some shtuff.  We met up and drove out to the Gorge to fish and swim and whatnot, it was a pretty good time.  We didn't really catch much... I caught a single rock bass and that was it.  We probably fished for 3 hours or so before giving up.  It was fun to lounge around ont he rocks by the rapids and stuff though, can't wait to get out to Ohiopyle in a few weeks (so excited!).

After fishing we checked out this one creek called Wolf Creek for swimming holes and found a great one.  It had a few boulders scattered about the edges with a nice ~8 ft hole in the center that you could jump into.  The water was initially cold, but once you got used to it, it felt great.  I was going commando and I ripped a huge hole in the back of my pants, which I thought to be pretty funny; but I think I gave a few folks an unwanted show (except for the hot chick in the subaru, of course!).  We swam for about an hour or so and jumped off all of the rocks and such.  It was a great time; will have to go back.  We eventually decided to head out, so we piled into the car and started making our way back to the top of the gorge.  Along the way I stopped to put my underwears back on but, since I was in a hurry (we were right next to the road and there wasn't much car to hide behind), I ended up putting them on backwards (which just about everyone could tell).  We drove up to the top of the gorge and went to Pies and Pints.  I hurriedly sat down at the bar and we got some beers and pizzas.  Ryan said he'd drive so I loaded up on brewskis; had a pint of Rogue Chocolate Stout (yum!), a pint of Hoegaarden Witbier (yum!) and a bottle of Stella.  Their pizza there is SO good; and the bartender/waitress was really fun to talk to; it was a great time.

Once we got back to Beckley, we went to the theater to see The Hangover, which was really funny.  It was freezing in the theater though since my pants were still wet.  Nice thinking only bringing one pair.

After the movie we went to Walmart, picked up some steaks, a case of beer and some charcoal, and headed home.  I was freezing since it was getting colder and my shorts were still damp; the steak aisle in walmart was excruciating.  We got back around 12:15 am or so.  Since my boss and two other guys were here (plus the two other guys I live with, plus Ryan), there was absolutely no room to sleep in the cabin so I threw my stuff in the fridge, grabbed a sleeping bag and went and slept outside.  I found a nice spot of mossy ground that was cushiony and slept on that.  It was relatively flat, too, so it wasn't too bad.  Sometime around 3 am or so a Barred Owl was hooting VERY loudly just above me in the tree somewhere.  He kept me awake for awhile, but I eventually fell back asleep.  Thankfully it didn't rain, since I didn't set any tent up.

Today I woke up around 8 am or so, cleaned up the cabin, took a well needed shower, and made pancakes for Ryan and myself.  We wolfed those down and then went to mass.  On the way back from mass, we stopped at the falls so Ryan could see em, then we came back here and grilled up those steaks.  I made about 5 taters worth of fries and we had a lunch fit for kings.  Gooood times.

We sat around for awhile, made some smores and brats, and finally Ryan drove back to Fairmont.  A great weekend!

Next weekend is D.C. to see LOTS of good folks; can't wait for that!  Just gotta get through the next five days lol.
