I was in a conversation the other night about the effects of terrorism, etc. on the world political scene.
Someone brought up that places in Africa are being over run by Arabs/Muslims/(Arab Muslims?).
What will be really interesting is seeing what the Great 8 will do in response. My initial thought was that we will do similar to what we did back in the cold war days --- preemptively take control before the terrorists take it. For example, many of the Caribbean Islands are separate individual nations, standing alone, rather than uniting and pooling resources, etc. This leaves them vulnerable to anyone who would care to exploit them. Brings back to mind the Cuban Missile Crisis. Eventually, if Arab/Muslim expansion continues, the Great 8 are going to start looking around at what assets remain and move to make those assets a part of themselves. Especially if those assets are within easy reach of their coasts. Imperialism reborn? Self defense? Preemptive containment? Will this all seem to mean nothing 50 years down the road?? Kind of like Communism has lost its "scare/shock" value?
The worst part is, with our nation attempting to be as politically correct, etc. as possible, will they move quickly enough to be able to secure our borders? And I am not talking about illegal immigration here...I am talking about securing them from missile/whatever attacks. If the terrorists managed to set up a base/training camp in the Caribbean....it really isn't that far away!
Just a thought, folks.
I'm out!
