Some Things Finished

I finally finished Sammi's blanket.  It was such a chore so I decided to rework the pattern so that I wouldn't have to join all the panels.  I'm working on Tommi's now and it's going much faster.  I am already aworking on the fifth of six panels.  It looks great, but I think I will experiment with a row of dividing stitches between panels on Daniel's.  It's supposed to look put together and Tommi's looks like one solid piece.  When I get the pattern down pat, I'm going to make a few more for friends and  other family.

I've been procrastinating again.  I have to get info on hotels in the neighborhood for my mother-in-law so that she can plan a possible visit at the end of May.  With Evan going into the Army this summer, she will probably never see him again.  He is the sort that out-of-sight-out-of-mind is a way of life.  He'll never write or call any of us even if he went off with a phone card and a 100 stamps/envelopes/paper and will essentially be dead to everyone once he goes.  Sad, but true.  All his paperwork is set and all that is need is his final transcripts once he graduates.  He leaves around the first week of June.  He'll get a $28,000 bonus for his job choice, but it will be paid over 5 years.  He won't see combat as he'll be in military intelligence translating foreign intel.  If he lasts, it's a sweet job and you get paid much more than the average soldier.

I'm sitting her enjoying my Girl Scout Thin Mint cookies.  Sammi's first year sales are 180 boxes.  Dan put out the order form at work and 90% of the sales were from there.  Next year we'll do some door-to-door for the experience of it.  I did that when I was a Camp Fire Girl and sold candy.  I cannot begin to tell you how hard it is to sell those candies when everyone wants GS cookies.  It's fun to do if you go with a friend or two.  Somehow the pressure isn't as great and the people are nicer.  I think I was 10.

We've had some bad weather lately.  There were tornadoes about three weeks ago and then we had ice storms the following week.  This week we had enough snow to call off another day of school.   I'm not sure why there wasn't just a 2-hr delay called for yesterday as by 10am the snow had melted.  That makes five for the year and there are only four days built into the calendar for make-up days.  They tack it on to the end of the school year.  Looks like an extra week of school before summer break.  Seems absurd as most of the graded stuff should be done by the previous week as report cards have to be ready for the last day of school and one week later for high school.  Wonder how they'll work it?

Well, time to spare you all the boredom.  By the by....Try the game at ikariam.org.  I've been enjoying it.  If you want a game that takes loads of time and thought, try http://magicduel.com/member.php?id=26396  It takes time, and yet no time, and lots of thinking.  It's far from completed, alpha5 stage, but it will be killer when its done.  That's all for now.
