today i led the St. Brigid youth music group for our second youth Mass. i must say, i think we sounded pretty good. :)
in a few days i'll hit my 16-month mark in the air force. its silly, i think, to count months. ah well.
so the air force is beginning "force shaping" soon. force shaping, for all you civilians out there, is when the Air Force needs to downsize and ask people to leave because its too big. specifically, it has too many officers, of which i am one. now, for the 2002 or 2003 year group (of officers..i'm 2004), they have already begun asking for volunteers and such to leave somewhere between april and september of next year. the thing is, they may ask for Lieutenants from the 04 year group soon as well. this would mean me possibly getting out the air force after 2 or 3 years instead of 4. a bit of a change, for sure.
so what should i do? i ask myself, and God, and friends, and you all who read this. here are some thoughts: one, i would perhaps go up to dallas and teach at Danny and Christina's school (if they need a teacher) while brushing up my Latin and Greek and maybe some theology courses at U.D. after a year or two of that, perhaps, i'd go on to a PhD program in theology for ecumenical studies from a Catholic viewpoint.
two, i would apply straight for a PhD program in theology and just do everything at that school, say Notre Dame or Georgetown or something.
three, i would apply to enter the Jesuit novitiate, see if they let me in, and hopefully, over however long that takes, see if the Society of Jesus is where God wants me to be. one nice thing there, i imagine they'd be all about putting me through all kinds of school and such. music too...they got all those good songs in the green books with songs written by Jesuits. haha. :)
four, i'd devote myself entirely to music writing/producing/etc and find a job to help me out in that vein. not sure where that would be or how that would go, but its an option.
further thoughts: i see two main passions in my life that have developed in these past 23 years. music and theology. intellectually, sure, i love computers to some degree and working with my crazy prime numbers and all, but i think i would rather use whatever mathematical gifts God has given me to compose music and help to contribute to the working out of theological problems in today's society. specifically, i'd like to study Catholic and evangelical relations in all way, shapes, and forms. theologically, fundamentally. i don't know...i just think i could help Catholics understand their faith better and maybe help them understand other Christians better.
something like that. :)
thoughts?
