Kristen, Weight Lifting Competition & "Mutter" - Oil Pastel, Watercolor and Acrylic Wash - 2005
What a day it has been. It all started with the sun dancing on my face beckoning for me to rise from my sleep. I ate some yummy cereal and worked on, and all but completed, my sculpture, "Mutter" for several hours and then got all cleaned up for Kristen's competition today. It's been several years since I've been in a "Gym Type" environment and I have to say, it's quite a feeling to be surrounded by an army of people who could break you in half with their pinky finger. Big as they may have been, I'm still way cooler though, MWAH! Kristen did a fantastic job and dead lifted something like 205 pounds (thats like 55 pounds more than me.) And she walked away setting a couple new state records with two very sexy trophies. You Go Girl! Inspired, I went home and added some more weight on my own bar. Maybe someday I'll be able to break 100!
Then, on a more solemn note, I received a letter from Alfred University in NY and The Art Institute of Chicago saying that they "unfortunately can not act in favor of my application." So that kind of jostled me a bit, but after you get rejected for a while it starts to lose it's bite. Thing about it is, regardless if I get it in or not, Art is my passion and what I love. Rejection will neither slow or alter my passion for my work, it will only drive me to challenge myself more. Not saying it wouldn't be nice to get into one of the 10 schools I applied to, but If I don't I will just try again next cycle.
