Motherhood has been an interesting exploration of enjoying the genuinely little things in life - beyond smelling the roses. It's been the thrill in noticing that today he holds things a little better than yesterday, last week he smiled at me when I was across the room, now he watches the dog intently and how every day he gets better at sucking his thumb. It's been an exercise in appreciating minutae on a level that I never would have quite expected. Watching an infant begin to turn into a person, day by day, minute by minute, is just fascinating and amazing.
