We got to the theater at 10:15 and were having trouble finding seats. There was a specky little git that was "saving" practically a whole row that especially rankled me. There were seats up front on the floor, but eff that. We got an usher who bellowed that since it was a sellout (DUHHH, damn kids) people need to fill up open seats, so we ended up with killer seats after that, third row from the back.
Preshow entertainment came from a Harry Potter who had a broom between his legs and was chasing a golden fairy girl up and down the aisles. Eventually we realized she was supposed to be a Snitch. I came straight from work, so Sister #2 plied me with food. Not, y'know, usual theater food, though. Matzo ball chicken soup and lasagna. There was also the moment when Kate asserted that Cedric Diggory was in Ravenclaw, to which I scoffed and said he was a Hufflepuff. She disagreed, we asked those around us, I was right (duh), and got to yell "SUCK IT".
There was also lots of "Thirty-seven minutes to go!" "Fifteen minutes to go!" and so forth. I remarked to Kate, "Aw, that's cute. They think it's going to start on time." (Note: It never starts on time. New Moon started about twenty minutes late, this one was about four minutes late.)
My audience was H/Hr 'shippers. When Hermione ordered Harry to "take it [the horcrux] off", I woooo'ed and several others followed suit. Hahaha, I loved it.
I watched all the movies this week (if only I was that determined about important things, yeah?) and Yates is totes my favorite HP director. So I went in planning to love it, and I did. He just gets the spirit of the series, which is more important to me than just doing a filmed reenactment. (Hullo, Chris Columbus.) The changes/new scenes in his movies I almost never have a problem with, especially since he's able to change POV in the movies, while JKR couldn't with the books. See: The opening scene.
Our audience groaned when the credits started; it was hilarious. I don't think anyone was expecting the time to fly by that quickly. I knew where the split was coming, so when we were getting close narratively, I was like, "oops, need to finish this popcorn" but apparently most people weren't aware. I don't think anyone would have minded sitting for another two and a half hours to get to the end. About a minute after the prolonged griping ceased, the applause started.
Wonderful, wonderful film. I can't wait to see it again, and since I took tomorrow/today off, I totally might see it twice in one day. Assuming that I don't just sleep all day, which is also a viable option for a day off.
Oh, also. This needs to be on DVD before Part Two comes out. Get on that, whomever.
