To echo half my flist, damn, it's cold out. I didn't go anywhere Sunday as it was snowing all day. I did, though, start Giles (my car) last night around 11:30 to wake him up, and he started okay. I started it again this morning at 11, still started.
My supervisor asked me to come in early because inbound was swamped. I left the apartment at 11:30, and left for work at 11:45. (I started my car last night, but I did not wipe off any snow.)
I was literally two blocks from work, taking the last turn, when Giles started to swerve. I pumped the brakes, and succeeded in not plummeting over the ditch into the field to my death, and instead ended up in the ditch.
My car has a very low center of gravity. The floorboard is six inches off the ground. When the snow isn't plowed well, I can feel the floorboard pushing through the snow beneath the car. I think that helped me, as the car was dragging on the snow and couldn't go any further.
It also had a downside, though, cuz I couldn't get the bastard moving again due to the snow packed against the bottom.
A Benton County patrol car stopped for me and called a tow company.
The tow guy said it would have been twice as much if I'd still been on the freeway. Which I wasn't. Yay! It did obliterate one of my dealing checks, though. Boo.
Also, you know you've been involved in too many car-meets-ditch incidents when you're told by a co-worker you were in one on the same stretch last year and you go "...really?"
He said there were pictures on the intranets, which I thought would jog my memory, but turns out he was lying about that. Pffft.
