The Hurricane

As many of you know, my mom works for FEMA. Yes, the agency that is being roasted over a spit for not responding to Hurricane Katrina fast enough. But she is a low man on the totem pole... Anyways, she is in Dallas right now helping about 10,000 disaster victims who have taken shelter there in the Conference Center. She is working 7 days a week, 13 or more hours a day. And the people in charge just decided to make her the coordinator of the whole Dallas operation. I guess she is not as low on the totem pole as I had thought. They even removed her cap of how much she can make with overtime, etc., that the rest of the FEMA employees operate under. It's so weird having someone this close to the event. Somehow that made it more real to me. And to hear some of the stories that she tells me that she has heard... it's heartbreaking. I have never been much of a praying person, but even this has made me send a thought up.

But anyways, for all the bad that has been done, there are people there who are working hard to try and get people help. I only hope that all those who are doing this, the police, FEMA workers, military, don't push themselves over the edge in the process....
