Jack wasn't sure about this. It had been Hammond's idea, and he was pretty (oddly) jazzed about it. But it just seemed weird to Jack. It was December 22nd, and as there wasn't a major crisis happening, there was going to be a Christmas party in the commissary. Civilian attire, Christmas tree, egg nog, the whole deal.  Jack was getting dressed slowly and vaguely uncomfortably. It felt unnatural to be wearing civvies on base. He glanced at the time.

"Oops." He muttered. The party was scheduled to have started ten minutes ago. He glanced at himself briefly to make sure he'd remembered all required articles of clothing--why was it so much harder to get dressed in civilian clothes?--and left his quarters. Despite his slight discomfort with the event to come, he was looking forward to seeing Carter out of uniform.

"Jack! You made it." General Hammond greeted him enthusiastically as he entered the commissary. Jack glanced around at the brightly decorated room.

"It didn't sound particularly optional, sir." Jack quipped. Hammond grinned.

"It wasn't an order, Jack, just strongly encouraged." Jack smirked and continued into the room. He spotted Daniel in the far corner, looking decidedly uncomfortable, and walked over to him.

"Hey, Daniel. What's with the lost-puppy look?" he asked.

"This feels weird, Jack." Daniel said.

"Yeah, you're telling me."  As he answered, he saw Daniel's jaw drop slightly. "What?" Daniel gestured towards the door. Jack turned to look over his shoulder to see what had caught Daniel's attention.

Sam had just walked in. Her black skirt brushed her knees, her red top wrapped around her torso and left enough to the imagination that it was appropriate for a work function, but not enough that a whole lot of dreaming had to go on,  and her black high heeled shoes seemed to make her legs go on forever.

Oh, and she was wearing a Santa hat.

On the rare occasions Jack had had the opportunity to see Sam in civilian clothes, he was constantly taken aback by how she could manage to be drop-dead sexy and adorable at the same time. He watched as she said hello to the general before spotting Jack and Daniel standing across the room.  A smile lit up her face and she crossed over to them.

"Hi, Daniel! Hi, Sir. You guys look great!"

"You look...festive." Jack said, trying not to check her out too obviously. It's Carter, it's Carter, don't check her out Jack. We agreed to keep it in the room. The thoughts didn't help.

"I love Christmas. I got a little excited when General Hammond told us about this. Do you think the hat is too much? I can get rid of it." She lifted a hand to pull the hat from her head.  Jack reached his arm out and placed it on hers to stop her.

"No, the hat is...good." Jack said, pulling his arm back awkwardly. Daniel's eyes flitted between the two of them.

"Uh, I'm going to go grab something to drink. Anyone else want something? No? Okay, I'll be back in a minute." And with that, he was gone. Jack shifted uncomfortably. He still couldn't shake the memory of kissing Carter when they'd been stuck in that time loop. Suddenly, he saw Sam's eyes flick upwards and a smirk crossed her face. Jack shot her a puzzled look and then Carter was stepping towards him, leaning forwards and pressing a light kiss to his lips.

"Uh, Carter, what--" he stammered as she pulled back. She pointed upwards to the mistletoe that Jack was standing underneath. Leave it to Carter to find a regs-approved way to drive him crazy.

"Merry Christmas, sir." she said, grinning playfully at him. Jack relaxed slightly, still overwhelmed by the smell and feel of Carter surrounding him.

"Merry Christmas, Carter." He smiled.
