I've just gone to Richardson's website and read some of his policies. They're admirable but I just don't think they're do-able. I looked in particular at health care, Iraq and GLBT issues. His Iraq policy I agree with although it's pretty much the same as Obama's. The health care plan has some good parts - standardized forms for insurance, for example. But allowing seniors to buy drugs directly from Medicare? How the hell is he going to do that? Mail order?
I will admit that I have not looked at other candidate's websites in any great detail. I need to. But I've heard (or rather read) others singing Richardson's praises so I went to check it out. I'll give you the experience part, don't really like the NRA endorsement but that's not a deciding factor for me as much as other issues are. I did not know he was Hispanic until people started making a big deal about it a while back and again, that's not a deciding factor one way or the other for me. I wasn't impressed with his performance at the HRC forum and thought he sounded whiny at the Univision debate because they wouldn't let him speak Spanish.
I guess it's just a visceral reaction to him that I can't explain. Just can't get excited about him. Admittedly I have the same reaction to a few of the other candidates as well and some I just plain don't like.
I like Obama but don't know if he's got enough experience or enough spine to keep his handlers from changing who he is. I think Hillary's smart enough but not sure she'd change enough of what I don't like about how our government is run. I don't like her as a person and there are too many people who hate her. Bill was as calculating and smart as she is but he appears to be a more genuine person. Notice I didn't say he was - just that he appears to be.
I actually agree with a lot of what Joe Bidden says but don't think he or any of the other second tier candidates has a snow ball's chance in hell.
I don't know what I think about Edwards. Saw him on Meet the Press yesterday and turned it off, mostly because Russert wasn't really asking any tough questions. He doesn't anymore, which is a shame.
