Both of the kids do, indeed, have sinus infections (probably as a result of their not taking care of themselves with bad allergic sinus reactions to pollens, etc.) and both are sick and cranky.   And both are on antibiotics; Mere still can’t handle pills, so we end up trying to see what we can get down her in liquid form.  This is problematic, as ( Read more... )

I think all of us revert to younger ages when we're sick.

I know that when I'm not feeling well, I wish my mom would make me soup, or bring me triscuits and cream cheese and apple sauce, or concoct some of that mystical combination of sprite or ginger ale and water that I have never in my life been able to recreate.

Ah! In my case, with my mom dead for 6ish years and me out on my own and far away for pushing 30 years, that sorta fades.

There's a form of pediatric penicillin which looks, smells and (I've been told) tastes like liquid pink bubble gum. My vet uses it, for the same reason it works on kids. (Well, dogs and other animals which can taste sweetness like it, and cats can't spit. :-)

My mom was a vet; I've helped her get medicine down cats. It wasn't fun.

Whoever invented pill pockets should get a Nobel Prize.

Pill pockets work ok for dogs (but peanutbutter is best), but NOT for Meredith. Anitbiotics are problematic for Mere because she's allergic to much of it: augmenten, amoxicillin, zithromax, etc... The best option in this case is a liquid (3 tiems a day) that tastes bad.

What Susan said. It's not easy finding a good antibiotic for Mere for that reason, and at least this time it doesn't seem to be bothering her, taste-wise.

Poor girls, poor parents.:) Not a fun time...I hope all are on the mend now. As one who is allergic to many antibiotics I do so understand. Summer is a lousy time to be sick for anyone and most especially kids.
Feel better girls!
