Both of the kids do, indeed, have sinus infections (probably as a result of their not taking care of themselves with bad allergic sinus reactions to pollens, etc.) and both are sick and cranky. And both are on antibiotics; Mere still can’t handle pills, so we end up trying to see what we can get down her in liquid form. This is problematic, as most any parent has discovered, because most non-pill formulations of antibiotics taste like Sauron’s dung at best, and you have to flavor the heck out of them to make them palatable. This works on an irregular basis, because - well, sometimes the stuff meant to cover the taste is icky too, or doesn’t work all that well at masking the crappy taste.
Mere sick ends up being a major PITA; even more fragile and volatile and cranky. Kailyn sick ends up grumpily mopy and whiny. In both cases, nothing suits them.
This ends up also with Kay attaching herself to Grandma Connie and being more likely to have homesick attacks, especially if Mere is being a severe rude crank, and with Mere attaching herself to Susan like a lamprey with her stuffed dog Scruffy and a Clothie, and being pretty useless for anything. And both revert when sick to things like younger kids’ TV and coloring books.
Me, I’m a third wheel - and the other adults, not exactly enjoying the sick kid attention, can get really tired and cranky as well. So hiding in the basement starts sounding like a really good idea.
