Christmas photos:

Warning - photos and discussions of the existence or non-existence of certain individuals below.  You are warned.

Photos of  Meredith and Christmas.

Yes, I’m way behind in this.  (The folks at work set up the system for better ‘connection’ to the servers downtown in such a way that I can’t access any other computer directly in our house network; they can stuff things into my system, but not the other way around.    So it’s a lot harder to glom onto stuff from Susan’s PC, where the photos are kept.)

The other day, Mere started asking some hard questions - first about the Tooth Fairy, then about Santa.  She had heard from friends at school on both subjects, and then she, spylike, started adding up thing she’s seen or heard in the past - looking for reciepts, noting sloppily stored away Santa-only wrapping paper, and finally finding special tooth-fairy stickers and a collection of baby teeth in her Mother’s stuff when looking for something else.

She asked straight out about the reality of both critters, and whether we really were the Tooth Fairy and Santa.  She had a pretty strong case, but was awaiting a final statement on the matter.  I said that, well, as far as who-left-the-Tooth-Fairy-money and who-bought-the-Santa-presents, I admitted that we did that.  (I’d noticed that the older she got, the sloppier Susan and Connie were getting on the whole thing, so I wasn’t surprised)  And that I did the special Sinterklaas stuff because that was from *my* family stuff.

She took it pretty well; she said that she knew I wouldn’t lie to her on something like this to a direct question, and let’s keep it our secret; don’t let Mom and Grandma know I know.   (Well, Mom often reads this, so…)  I told her that I wasn’t going to say ‘Santa doesn’t exist’ as a statement; that’s beyond my ability to say.

I figured for exactly the reasons above that this wasn’t likely to hold up much longer…and *sigh* it didn’t.
