Not long ago, we were having some real problems with Concast, our cable/phone/internet provider, which turned out to be the usual; damage to the line coming into the house from squirrels, weather, etc. That's their responsibility, and the deal with Comcast is that if you messed up the line in the house, or it's your rewiring attempts or whatever that caused the service call, you pay for the service call. Fair Enough, and there's a 'line-backer' $3 a month fee that you can pay to cover 'insurance' for the costs if the service call is for something You Did. We don't have that. Didn't need it.
So I find that our bill just jumped up by a sizable amount, and I call Comcast. They have a new policy; HEAVILY push the 'insurance' fee. And unless the tech specifically notes that the call was not-the-subscribers-fault, assume it was and charge them for it. Only take the extra charge off if the subscriber challenges it directly, and there's no proof in the tech's notes that it was their fault.
Chiselers. Now,
Office Depot is telling their staff that all laptops MUST be sold with hefty 'insurance' plans, and to lie and say it's not available without the plan. Read the comments to the main article. And these stores wonder when they go broke.
