Susan was just down in the basement on her belly with her head in the sump working on the pump to make sure that the thing is in place in case the melting snow and upcoming rain cause another water problem for the basement. I wish I could help, but in this case, it’s blocked by a total lack of any idea as to What The Heck I’m Doing. Sad to say, but I’m a total nimrod on the subject of anything mechanical. Just as I have all this computer aptitude, I have none on anything mechanical…
If I was down in the sump, I think it would be messed up; Susan has a far better grasp on such things than I do.
As to the PC stuff, I was wrangling until all sorts of hours on PC-related stuff, especially in trying to help fix / back up a family friend’s Web site. GoDaddy hosts it, and I learned far more than I ever wanted to about their systems, including how clunky their backup and restore system works. The friend’s Wordpress site is up to snuff and properly backed up, but *great googly moogly* that was a serious bear.
Add in a virus attack on my system, setting up Susan’s backup system (which required a lot of monkeying around to Get The Thing Working Right and a bad scare on things being lost) and a still-looking problem on my own Ubuntu setups on the server (back working again in a moderately functional way, but needs to be backed up, wiped and redone from scratch) and my own Ubuntu-side of the PC (nVidia drivers in Ubuntu are buggered up with the latest update, and I’m really not looking forward to the brain surgery I have to do to get it working again) . And I did get Meredith’s Ubuntu Firefox working; one support file had gone whacko and needed to be deleted. Took me forever to research it all out, though.
I’m to the point where not looking at the PC sounds really good to me. It doesn’t help that Work Has Heated Up, with three major projects all needing tons of tweaks and herding from me. Some Computer Geek I am.
