It's mostly normal science, except usually with big honkin' computers. It's the building that's secret. But only partially secret, since bits of it stick up from underground. I know about it because I'm a compute science student, and we're special: our building backed up on the construction site, and I got to watch it get built over the last few years, by watching out the window in the back stairwell.
It's not a very well-kept secret.
Interesting trivia: the grass on the building was greener, tidier, and better-maintained when the construction company was driving heavy equipment back and forth than it has been since the University took over lawn maintenance. Unsurprising, but sad.
