slowly but surely

Dear god. [smashes head against keyboard]
Yesterday I wrote approximately 1100 words of my dissertation. Specifically, Chapter 2: The Research Aims. I have to turn in a draft copy of it tomorrow to my 2 advisors. I was very displeased with it so I decided today to write Chapter 1: An Introduction to Conservation and Management of Earthen Architecture because I thought it would help me focus my thoughts better for what to say in my research aims once i had layed out current problems in Chapter 1. I've spent most of the day working on it, but it has involved a lot of note taking and organization of thoughts (ie, my highlights and scribbles on all my PDF print outs and photo copies). As such, it is now 2:24am and I have only finished 500 words of my introduction chapter. Enough to get the point accross that there needs lots of work, but I haven't even discussed yet the work that already HAS been done/IS being done in order to expalin why my research aims are valid. But, nonetheless, I do feel I have a better understanding of where to go with Chapter 2. So that just means I need to now FIX chapter 2. I guess I should make a cup of tea. *sigh* And i thought i'd get to bed relatively early today.

On the one side, I had said to Paul (who started working on his several weeks ago) that my goal was 1000 words per day. He said so was his, originally. But that once i start, I'll probably find it's more like 500 per day. If today is a foreshadow, he was very right. To think so much effort goes into 500 words! But then, this isn't some bullshitting essay as I've written many times before (usually 3000 words in a single night/less than 24hrs to hand in the next day). This is, afterall, a Master's dissertation. I guess it shouldn't be that easy. Dammit.

[simultaneous yawn and sigh]
