Sexy Zone
Sato Shori
[A recent Kikuchi Fuma episode] I think Aniki (Fuma) loves Sou and Mari. He’s always playing around tickling them. Sou and Mari are saying, “Stop!” but they look like they’re really having fun, so I’m sure they don’t hate it (laughs). Eh, do I want to be picked on, too? (Strictly) That’s alright. And Fuma-kun is good at taking care of people. When I say, “I don’t know where the studio is for tomorrow,” he says, “I’ll go with you then.” But he’s really my-paced, so he’s either nearly late or a little late for the time, so I’m always kind of nervous (laughs).
[A new side of you that you discovered after joining Sexy Zone] I really can’t believe that I’m a part of a drama. I still have a lot to get used to, but everything is fresh and fun. What I can’t get used to are the drama words. Like “dry.” “Dry” is kind of like a rehearsal that we do before we shoot the real thing, but at first, I thought, “Is this about something dry?” (laughs). Also, I was really surprised that they do so many takes for one scene! It’s merely a few-second scene, but it takes hours!
[Do you believe in fortune telling and jinxes?] I can’t help caring about jinxes. I heard that you’re not supposed to write your name in red, so I try not to do that. But the other time, I accidently wrote in red for my card for a magazine. But when I saw the magazine, JUMP’s Chinen-kun had also written in red, so I felt a little better (laughs).
[How do you memorize lyrics and moves?] I had trouble with two parts of the debut song, “Sexy Zone.” Especially, the “The world is always♪” part, where we’re supposed to use our legs and bodies to make a round movement, but my moves always ended up being awkward. Sou and Mari is good at displaying moves nicely, despite their young age, so I can’t lose to them. I have to work hard !
[Do you have any Juniors or seniors that you became friendly with recently?] The members of A.B.C-Z! I didn’t have the chance to talk to them much, but I was able to take part in the Yoyogi concert, and they came to our handshake event, too. The A.B.C-Z members told me to talk to Hasshi so I talked to him, but I never imagined how funny he is. The five of them are really good friends. I want us to be a group with teamwork like them someday.
Matsushima So
[A recent Marius Yo episode] Marius grew up in Germany, so he’s not a type who you can find easily in Japan. He’s a really kind boy. When I pick on him, he sometimes gets mad, but if I apologize, he forgives me easily. I think Mari will grow bigger slowly. (“Yes. I’m kind of like a grandma,” says Marius) …His reactions and replies are cryptic and interesting (laughs). Different from me, he has a “super natural character.”
[A new side of you that you discovered after joining Sexy Zone] I don’t think I really changed much myself, but my friends sometimes tell me, “I feel like you’ve become a part of another world. Don’t drift away from me.” In fan letters, those kinds of phrases have started coming up. My insides haven’t changed at all, so it’s alright! But compared to before, I think I’ve gotten better at understanding my surroundings (laughs).
[Do you believe in fortune telling and jinxes?] I believed it! I even believe in ghosts and myths like “you get bad luck if you leave rice in your bowl.” I think that if you do something bad, something bad will properly come back to you. So I want to do as much good as possible.
[How do you memorize lyrics and moves?] I live in Shizuoka, so my rehearsal time is sometimes shorter than the other members. So I borrow the space in the gym near my house, and do dance lessons there. At first, my older sister used to come with me. My sister is actually pretty strict as a choreographer, and she goes, “Look at your flaws objectively!” (laughs). But sometimes, when she praises me, “You looked good in the magazine shoot,” I feel happy. But she also scolds me, “’Favorite food = sashimi’ sounds really back-country, so stop it” (laughs).
[Do you have any Juniors or seniors that you became friendly with recently?] During “Music Station,” I was really happy when Arashi’s Aiba-kun shook my shoulder and helped me relax by saying, “Don’t be nervous~”. And at the handshake event, I was really moved and ended up crying a lot. That time, Kisumai’s Kitayama-kun petted my head and said, “Stop crying!” and A.B.C-Z’s Hashimoto-kun copied Sexy Zone’s moves to make me laugh. I was touched by my seniors’ kindness!
