It's common for tournament poker players to 'trade action'. E.g., player A will agree with player B to give player B 10% of whatever he (A) wins in the tournament they are both about to play in, in return for the same consideration reversed. It's basically a method of reducing variance (and can be fun).
On NPR just a bit ago, George Lucas said that in the past he and other producers commonly 'traded action' on films. Well, he didn't call it that; the interviewer referred to it as 'trading points', IIRC. But it was obviously the same thing, and for the same reasons. In particular, Lucas noted that he and Steven Spielberg had traded action on Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Lucas lost on that one...
