I went rollerblading again yesterday. I bumped up my distance from 14.4 miles to 15 miles, and I averaged 8.57 miles an hour instead of 8.22. Woo-hoo!
My body still isn't quite used to the long exertion, and my blood sugar plummets when I get off the trail and rest for a few minutes. I get incredibly weak and nauseous. I think part of the problem is that I'm sweating so much over the nearly two hours of constant work that I lose a bunch of electrolytes. I may need to add some Gatorade to my water bottle. I'll try that next time and see how I feel.
I'm also having major problems with blisters. When I was doing the shorter distances (8 miles and less), some self-adhesive simple callous pads did the trick to prevent the blisters. At 14.4 miles, my feet sweat so much that they come right off. So, I went to the drug store and bought a big roll of moleskin pads. They worked great when I used to hike 30 miles into the woods.
Well, they couldn't hold up to 15 miles. Which isn't good.
My next step is to put the moleskin on, then wrap my foot in duct tape. That'll hold everything on as well as add another level of protection.
I need to let the blister heal a bit before I get back to the 'blades. So, looks like I'll be walking and biking it for a few days to make up. I'm wanting to get to 20 miles before long. Which, at the rate I'm going, won't be too far ahead in the future. Not too long ago, I was bragging about doing five miles!
