Maximal ideals
We don't hear, we cannot hear, many of the things we utter. It takes someone from Istanbul to make me realize how many different letters s we have in Bogotá Spanish - desde is actually not pronounced deSde but deZde (try it within a sentence and you'll notice). The letter g in jugo is not the same as the letter g in gato, no matter what we may think. Jugo is more akin to jugho ... apparently Turkish has different letters for the two versions of g. Say at normal pace (that is, the way you would order it at some stand, not the way you would pronounce it carefully for a child) "jugo de naranja" and you'll notice how soft the g of jugo is. Also, nobody says Universidad pronouncing completely the first d in normal speech: people say something closer to "universiiad". If you ask them to repeat, they will say universidad. But only then. And so it happens with so many words...
