Sooooo I wouldn't tell Lech and Jesse that it was a shame they weren't in South Jersey at any time, but if I would, it would be tomorrow night, when the Beach Theatre shows none other but
Bill and I, of course, will be viewing it. I don't know really that I have a say, but I'll be enjoying it nonetheless. You may recall my having written something about this a few months ago when we received Air Guitar Nation as one of the first films to make its way to our mailbox from Netflix. Though most of you do not live anywhere near the Beach Theatre, you do have the means to get yourself to a copy of this, and I suggest that you do, especially if you enjoy Christopher Guest films. It's very much got the feel of a mockumentary, except the losers are all real (except the winner, who is real, but not a loser).
You may especially enjoy it if you were or knew one of the people to read To Air is Human, by bitter, worthless being, Björn Türoque.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to it. I admit it.
I do still have to see Heavy Metal Parking Lot (says Lorena) and The King of Kong (says Lech). These things just make me feel good.
Speaking of the Beach Theatre, we Lech, Bill, Kevin Krueger and I went to go see Perseopolis. Stunning movie! I greatly appreciated the way it was done. For its genre, whatever that genre may be (socio-political animated autobiography?), it was excellent. The animation was impressive and the film managed to lead me through a series of emotions. For an animated film, the feel of what was being conveyed was very real. You weren't watching a cartoon, but rather a 2-d representation of some very depressing, angering, inspiring, or invigorating shit. And it was refreshing to see something so well put together for a woman's story. No doubt if they called it Marjane it would have received less attention from the casual movie goers.
On Netflix, the majority of the reviews are full of praise. I'm going to check back after this gets released on DVD to see how many haters sprout up. Some people really, really disliked this movie, complaining that it made the regime seem "somewhat compassionate." Haters. It's like anything that shows non-whites as being multifaceted creatures must be flawed. I'm not going to go on about that now. It's cold, so I'm going to work out.
