Aaaghhhh! T minus 40 hours until this crazy workshop comes into being! I'm a huge ball of nerves right now. Breathe, Alice, breathe. So, I've narrowed the obscure "Math Games" down to one game, "Math Battleship," and I'm actually pretty excited about it, but I'm worried that all of the teachers will have already seen it or something. My students helped me construct a bunch of playing boards today, so I have maybe 10% of the work I need to do finished at this time. Breathe, breathe.
Today was 80 degress Fahrenheit. Yes, 80 degrees. I can't believe how great the weather is here! The power went out twice during school today, a fairly common occurrence which everyone just takes in stride. Classes went on as usual and the power turned back on within an hour or so. While life doesn't necessarily move in a rush here, it also doesn't slow down for too much. There is a sense of constancy, regardless of the time or day or place. The attitude is like "things will happen when they happen." For example, Discovery School runs on "Discovery School Time," which means that we start at 8:00am promptly every day, all of the meetings are at exact times, etc... However, Honduras runs on "Honduran Time," which means that things happen whenever they happen, which may be at 8:00 or 8:30 or even 11:00. It kind of reminds me of the "Hawaiian time" I experience in college with the Hui O'Hawaii club. So maybe it's just the United States that's always in a rush...I don't quite know.
Anyway, speaking of time, this conference will happen at "Discovery School Time," so I'd better get back to work.
Hello to the new readers!
